Thank you for your help guys.

I changed the permissions - wowza, thnx for dat.

I didn't realize that you still have to do anything manually when installing a package, thnx, I will read the instruction on download site.

I tried to download this gallery first but I kept getting errors, so no go.

Sorry for posting in the wrong forum, I tried to fix this for over 4 hours and was dead tired.

You normally don't have to, but if you are using a custom theme made by a user not involved in SMF, the program doesn't stand a chance to guess if your custom theme is editable in the right way.
SMF 2.x Has the ability to test and install if the test is successfull in every theme.

I now have both galleries installed, all the changes as per instructions done and neither one shows up on the menu.

This is pretty discouraging.

UPDATE : It would seem that it was a problem with the template.  I am currently searching for a new one that actually works...

can you link images from photobucket in this MOD or do all images need to be uploaded?
They need to be uploaded.
I understand your point but there are currently no plans to let users do this.
It could be done, technically, via en embed, but I haven't looked into this.

ok.. that would be a great feature imo. Thank you for the reply. :)

Both? You need to manually add the button in the theme.

All templates on the theme site work ;)

I like to point to a discussion about external embed and my request to embed only from specific and decent free image-hosting services.

The discussion Upload via External URL can be found over at smf-media.com.

My personal point of view and my request can be found there also Show via free image host (imageshack etc...

In short, the main argument against external embed is the possibility of traffic stealing.
I think, that the opposite is verisimilar.
If embed is allowed only from a small amount of free image- hosting sites, it is impossible to steal traffic.
Let me name MediaWiki-software as an example. (Manual:$wgAllowExternalImagesFrom)
#$wgAllowExternalImagesFrom = array( 'http://127.0.0.1/', 'http://my.imageshack.us/' );

To drive this further, there are mods to upload and embed (here, here), only upload (here) and a bunch of mods to thumbnail / enlarge images.
Some of them are causing problems because of js incompatibility or because they can't handle intended behavior if the image is a link and an admin have to handle a bunch of mods instead of one (gallery).

Please don't blame me for bringing up this discussion again, but I think this feature is worth to be discussed.

Okay... You're making your point :P
One of the problems is that these sites often offer various links... The picture itself... An HTML page with a preview... An HTML page with the full picture... A preview link... Sometimes a direct link to the picture... I'm not sure I like the idea of having to go through all of these and extract the actual image URL. That's my main point. Also, should we make a preview picture out of it? (ie, download it, resize it to both preview and thumbnail, or just resize it to thumbnail?)
So many things to do... So little time.

But we're clearly in a timeframe where new features can be added. I know from experience that I rather enjoy adding new features from time to time, at the same time as I'm fixing bugs in previous features. Dragooon prefer to have a "stable" release and a "beta" release where he'll put the new features, but the bug fixes must be put into both releases so it's really, really annoying to keep maintaining two versions at the same time. It's something Dragooon and I have difficulty agreeing upon -- the Aeva philosophy and the SMG philosophy ;)
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

Aeva Media rocks your life.

Thanks for your patience with me (and in this case). It's really appreciated.
As mentioned in the smf-media thread, I don't want to steal your time and if time is the reason not to write this feature, I will keep my mouth shut.

I think that imageshack offer all the options you named, to display images.

On the other hand, I need only one kind of link to embed an image into a post.
I have an example thread (http://www.firopolis.de/forum/index.php/topic,2751.0.html).
To show the thumbnails:
http://img7.imageshack.us/my.php?image=zoomer11689044.th.jpg
To show the full image (per se), it's only necessary to get rid of the ,,th" at the end of the link.
To make it fullsize: Highslide mod and as far as I know, something similar is already in the SMG.

From my (greenly) point of view, it can't be so complicated.

I know that you show a tendency to make every possible code embeddable...
...than it could get complicated.
When a simple
http://img7.imageshack.us/my.php?image=zoomer11689044.th.jpg is the only way, than it might be easier.
You have a thumb as preview and some js could do the rest.

Well... we can talk about an upload feature also.  :-X

In any case, I am finished with this and will not ask again. Hopefully you can enjoy the nice weather and don't have a "real life stress test".

Please run this code in phpmyadmin.
INSERT INTO smf_settings VALUES ('disableTemplateEval', 1);
And try again. This seems like to other problem not smg.

There's a link in the top called sql as I remember. Clicking it will open a popup window. Just provide the code there.

Thank you! I found it right away and added it with no problems.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have solved the problem. Ideas anyone?

This is where the problem seems to be occuring from in mgallery.template.php

You insert that code into phpmyadmin as prescribed above, then go to your forum and do the actions that usually bring up your error.

Now go to your error log and copy the error here if it is now different, or to the appropriate thread if the error shows it is another modification causing it.

Then go back to phpmyadmin and run this line
DELETE FROM smf_settings WHERE variable = 'disableTemplateEval';
Do NOT give admin and/or ftp details to just anybody, see if they are trust worthy first!!  Do your homework ;)

pradius,

The (eval?) comment at the end of the error message indicates that that error is not actually occuring in that file, it just happens to be triggered by that line of code.  With that in mind, there is likely another issue with someone else that happens to be brought to light by the Mgallery code...   so pasting mgallery code will serve no purpose.

The SQL that they gave you is to turn off the eval, so that you get the ACTUAL location of the error. If you are still seeing (eval?) then you did not run the SQL code...

You are right, after I run the code (eval?) dissapears. But the error still looks essentially the same to me. Here is as it stands right now.
