Can we use the same templates which are compatible for  2.0 RC1.2  ?
No.
And to explain Antechinus' answer, it's because of the way the theme structure is set up due to the Curve theme that makes all themes supporting previous versions of SMF 2.0 will NOT support SMF 2.0 RC2.

curious over one thing.

because there is alot of people using 1.1.10 do we have to upgrade to the new one?

Is there away of doing an upgrade like smf does through the admin by clicking on the
link update so it can be done automaticly..

Would you believe it that i live in gods country

Arantor

You don't have to upgrade if you don't want to. It's completely optional.

There is no way of doing it automatically through the package manager. The only way is to upload a complete set of files as discussed in: Upgrading SMF

Even if there were some automatic way of doing it, it'd still basically replace every file anyway, still removing all your mods and themes because they all need to be reworked and upgraded to work on 2.0 RC2.
Holder of controversial views, all of which my own.

Does  this new released 2.0 version now have the ability to upgrade through the packages in  the adm. panel???

Antechinus

Not yet, because it is not a stable release yet.

Yes and No. The functionality is there, but updates for package manager will only be released after 2.0 goes final.
Like always with RC versions.

If I delete all the old 1.10 files from my forum (the database is intact and backed-up) and run a fresh SMF 2.0 RC2 instead of upgrading the old forum script, will all the data in the forum still be intact?

I mean the postings.

Thanks

Don't try it that way, just get the large upgrade and use it to _replace_ all files, and run the upgrade.php

The install will not be able to change your database correctly, and it will most probably end up either breaking it, or you having a fresh empty 2.0 installation with none of the old data available.

Okay,thanks.

Oh, just to make this clear - I just realised that could be misunderstood.

So what I meant to say, the ability is there - but you can never update RC versions through the package manager.
So package updates will only be available for 2.0 final and beyond.

Don't try it that way, just get the large upgrade and use it to _replace_ all files, and run the upgrade.php

If you want to start with all new files, do the following:

  • Make a full backup including both database and files
  • Delete all files except any attachments uploaded, and the Settings.php file.
  • Upload the contents of the install package, taking care to not overwrite Settings.php. Do not upload the install.php file or the .sql files from this package.
  • Grab the upgrade.php and .sql files from the upgrade package, and upload them to the main SMF directory.
  • Browse to upgrade.php to complete the upgrade.
  • Make sure that the upgrade.php file and .sql files have been deleted.

GurusForum.com

Thanks for your support.

Why I asked whether I can upload SMF 2.0 RC2 installer on old forum after backing the database and forum files up is that my forum GurusForum.com was transferred from old hosting account to a more robust account.

However, I noticed that whenever I logon to the site using Mozilla Firefox, it will not show the theme very well. It will also display this error message: "The default theme's directory is wrong, please correct it by clicking this text".

I tried to upgrade but it's proving difficult. So, I have decided to see if it's possible to either restore the old SMF 1.10 or upload the latest release and still have all my posts intact.

Is there any thing I can do to restore this problem?

Thanks

GurusForum.com

Thanks for that repair script.

I was able to use it to repair the directory structure before deleting it.

At least, the forum has gone back to it default theme. I can now upload fresh theme or upgrade to 2.0 RC2.

I'm grateful!
