Cleanup this board
« on: February 18, 2011, 04:50:56 PM »
SMF 1.1 and SMF 2.0 are stable and all of the development efforts are focused on SMF 2.1. SMF 1.1 and SMF 2.0 are still, however, getting security fixes, and there are many bugs which have yet to be fixed.

This board has a lot of bugs that need to be confirmed, tracked, or moved to the fixed/closed board. Please help us in checking these bugs out, especially the ones concerning SMF 2.1.

If the bug still exists but is not found on the issue tracker (GitHub), please ask a team member to track it if you are not comfortable with using GitHub. Otherwise, you can move issues to GitHub by yourself.  If you're unsure please leave the bug topic alone and let someone else look in to it. Littering the board with requests for help will not assist anyone.

Thank you all so much for your help.

Maybe it is also a good idea to clean up all of the locked topics when we are done?

I was moving the "moved:" topics when I noticed a search bug. I'm leaving them there for now to confirm the bug. After I can target the source of the bug I'll remove them. I usually leave the "moved:" topics for 7 days or whenever I get to them so authors know that their bugs have been moved. On some of the much older ones, I just move them without a move topic.

It isn't major and this is getting OT, but it is currently showing the recycle board topics included in the search results.

Without bumping all the topics (if you prefer so let me know), here it is a list of what I've found.

These that are still valid:
If someone already knows if they are tracked in mantis I would not bother to search... :P

And these that seems to be fixed or not bugs:
Could anyone confirm all these topics can be moved away? :)

out of your list to verify this one seems to be the only that i can verify still exists, it works fine in greek, but does not work in greek-utf8

I tested a few other languages, dutch-uft8 and turkish-utf8, looks like turkish-utf8 has this issue as well but only for the character for wednesday in the mini calendar on the left side.

also tested with russian-utf8, this issue seems to be able to be duplicated with any language that does not use the a-z alphabet for the first letter of each day of the week. I will bump that topic with further information.[/list]

They get removed from this board periodically, and have done for quite a while, usually a month or so after they were moved.

Illori, I usually keep them around for a week to a month and remove them after that since they add a lot of clutter.

It's not easy to check these reports against their related issue in Mantis if half or more are private :P

There is no "half of them". Most of the tracked issues and tracked features/plans are publicly visible, currently.

I have made the 2.1 project publicly accessible months ago. That means SMF 1.1, SMF 2.0, SMF Tools and SMF 2.1 are publicly accessible projects in the tracker.

I believe there is a "Saguaro" project that isn't public - yet. It is more in the future, though, and it basically tracks features or enhancements or revamps proposed for the (farther) future.

In any case, its accessibility will change after 2.0 final, along with many other things to open SMF development to the community, including planning/roadmaps for any versions.
To-do lists are for deferral. The more things you write down the later they're done… until you have 100s of lists of things you don't do.

Total topics in the board: 421
    Redirects: 43
    Stickies: 2
    Tracked: 57

15.2 % of the reported bugs are confirmed and tracked.

Hopefully after all of the work I did between yesterday and today, those numbers should be radically different.

I think we should set a goal that all bugs will be triaged within 10 days.

Not to steal emanuele's thunder but with the help of Illori, emanuele, and several others, we are working these numbers down:

    total: 375
    untracked: 194
    tracked: 89
    locked (moved): 92

Once the moved topics get removed, that will put us under 300 topics in this board. We still have a long way to go with triaging and tracking the bugs but we're getting better. Please help us by going back and checking these bugs though!

Total topics in the board: 270
    Redirects: 31
    Stickies: 2
    Tracked: 60

25.3 %* of the reported bugs are confirmed and tracked.

The number of tracked bugs is decreasing a lot...bad.
But it's nice that the number of "open" topics is now at 237 (from 376 of 8 months ago), that means we are finally at less than 10 pages!! YAY! :D (of course there is still a lot to do... :()

    Tracked: 58

24.0 %* of the reported bugs are confirmed and tracked.

Not a lot of improvement this time. No problem, we have time! :P

    Tracked: 52

24.4 %* of the reported bugs are confirmed and tracked.

And with the help of Trekkie we are now down to (as soon as the redirects will be cleaned out) 213 active topics! :D
The next milestone (200 topics) is now pretty close!
    Thanks Trekkie!

    Feel free!

The things to do are always the same:
    1) verify the bug is still valid in the latest development version (and to do that consider that many bugs are not described very well and people may intend something different than what you think so you have to apply a bit of "creativity" lol to the bug reports)
2a) if the bug is confirmed, mark it so (icon: thumb-up) and if the procedure to replicate it is not well described, write it down (again) in a bullet points list
2b) if the bug is no more a bug or if it has been fixed move the topic to the fixed or bogus board
2c) in case of doubts write down considerations or opinions (but maybe not for all otherwise it will become a mess :P)

Anyone can help and any help is highly appreciated!! (Even more if accompanied by patches :P)

A more detailed consideration, at that point I have in mind three categories:
    1) bug that shall be fixed for 2.1 (for example those related to paid subscriptions),
    2) bugs that "could be" fixed for 2.1 (for example those more close to a feature request than a bug),
    3) bugs that should be fixed in later releases (for example anything related to parse_bbc).

*bump* There are 5 pages of topics, starting with 2012 dates. This board needs cleanup again.

It's so powerful that on this post and even in the two PMs you sent me,you still answered my question very quickly and you're apologizing for the delay. You're the #1 support I've probably ever encountered man, so much respect for that. Thank you, and get better soon.

I'll keep this in my siggy for a while just to remind me that someone appreciated what I did while others didn't.

Lol I don't think I'll ever have (nor I want it) the permission to do what you can do (in fact, I can barely post) ;) I merely let you know :)
As for volunteering... Did a long while ago, still got nearly 2000 posts. I also volunteer on SP.net, for that matters.

Heh, I didn't have anything special in mind, just cross checking things and noting which topics can be moved.

And my last comment was  trolling. I sometimes troll people irl who make hints, too.

I know, I was feeding the troll with more trolling :P Thanks, actually :) I didn't want to be pedantic, but it's to prevent things like these: http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=534001.msg3827852#msg3827852 and that would give all of you even more work, as you'd have to 1) reply 2) move the topic, so twice as much. As such, it's in your own interest to clean up the whole thing ;D
