When necessary, my partner is Indonesian, so that language could be covered too :)

Okay... obviously, I ran out of free time to do this. And for that, I am very sorry.
(for clarification, this = coordinating the translations... not actually making them, just getting all of it taken care of.)

So, here's what I can do - if someone will volunteer to head it all, I'll send all the files I've received, as well as the current language files to them... and they can handle getting them translated. It would be of great help to me, and would in all likely make the public beta come faster.

Anyone up for the challenge?

Just post here or send me a pm.

This is similar to an idea I proposed yesterday in the smf team forum, however with a forum instead of email:
What I would find great if happened before a public beta: setup a "language translation" board that means a board where all languages which have been translated so far are activated. Let only the language translators access this board and check if their translation is fine and complete.

I volunteer for coordinating/uploading the upgraded language files into this board.

I have holidays from today on and am at home with my girl. We are curing both our flu and havent the money to travel away for winter holidays. So spending some time in front of the computer right now...
I find it better to activate the language files in a language forum (which I volunteer to admin) such that they can be viewed in action. In addition I would prefer to have the language files attached to posts in that language forum instead recieving many emails. I personally would have better the overview think (and others could access the file, they would not be on my computer only). I still volunteer to do this job, of course my offer is meant to start right now during these xmas holidays where I got time to do it.

(for the record, I missed that second sentence!)

Still, I'm sure if someone wants to help it would be a good thing...

But, when you say forum - wouldn't it be simpler to just make another board on this forum?

But, when you say forum - wouldn't it be simpler to just make another board on this forum?

Depends on some security issues. The most efficient would be if I could right upload the corrected files into that language test forum. In order to be able to translate the admin menu the translators would need admin rights (security?) - otherwise they can only revise the user area translations - which of course also would not be bad.

However somehow I think would be fine to also do the admin area from the beginning - I feel the time which I would invest in that language forum will be shorter than the time it costs if the public beta goes out with untested language files. Incomplete language files cause so many support requests and to many people start to translate and post their language version...

[Unknown], I have free time, but can you please describe the job deatails again.

You will send me all the launagae files and I will list them all and see what is missing and whatever is missing to post here to ask people to make them, is that right?

The language file is 1 file right? That you add to the forum database and that gives you an option at Profile to change language, right?

And are the language files also including the buttons (are the buttons also translated) and lets say if I get to be head of this to I also have to make sure the buttons are also tranlated or only the forum.

If this is all correct I will be honored to do this, I have a week vacation and nothing better to do.

Amacythe that is a good table. You could add a separate column for the buttons. I recommend to use my button generator instead of creating them manually, this will spare lots of time. I can do the button gifs in all languages with the exception of arabic (and not sure maybe also not hebrew). I will do one or maybe 2 button styles, probably the classical yabb se style or the new default style once it has been selected. I have done (with the help of some language translators of course) these languages so far:
Buttons which are done:
arabic, german, dutch, english, french, finnish, hebrew, italian, norsk, portuguese, spanish, swedish

All the language translators have to do is to pass me over the texts which are on the buttons, I will modify this post later on and post the array which needs to be translated.

Edit: text file containing the button text array is attached to this post. Translators please pm or email me the translated strings.

Edit2: translators to languages with non-latin alphabet please pm me your email address and request the " button translator file and the special instructions for languages with non-latin alphabet".

andrea, I was refurring to all the buttons.

So I just have to edit that .txt document with the hebrew tranlation to it:

example:

home= בית(house in hebrew)EDIT- HEBREW DOESNT WORK IN THIS FORUM

but you wil not be able to understand the hebrew font cause your comp is not configured to hebrew.

Let us try this out. If you are able to translate into unicode then my computer will understand for sure. My question mark re. hebrew is not at all referring to the character representation but if with hebrew happens a similar issue as with arabic namely that the characters change the representation depending on their position in a word... Written arabic written is always handwriting thats the reason why my button translator cannot do arabic. My button generator can only do machine writing. I dont know the hebrew language enough, is there a similar phenomenon?

Still not sure if we talk of the same thing. I have no problems to represent arabic characters. My computer and my button generator can make single arabic characters without problem. However an arabic word is not made by simply combining single arabic characters... That is the problem.

Oh, yeah I know, no Hebrew is just mixing of words, there is no other letters to connect them , you shouldnt have any problem making it.

Can you please post again how I should tranlate the forum, I need to switch the english words in that text doucment that you posted into hebrew, and then your computer will tranlate that to numbers...

andrea you can use a Unicode font like Ezra SIL for Hebrew:
http://www.sil.org/computing/fonts/silhebruni/download.htm

In Hebrew there are only a few letters that will change and it is only if they are at the end of the word. If you need any help let me know.

I think the problem is right to left... I don't know that GD does that well.

And, thanks to Amacythe and Lamper.

No problem with the representation of hebrew (or arabic) characters, also not with the right to left direction.

Here are some sample hebrew buttons. Please check and feedback if that representation is correct. I do not speak hebrew so copied the text strings from a hebrew language yabb se board. My question is not if the precise text on the buttons is precisely right or not, but if the words represent hebrew in the correct way.

The problem with the arabic buttons is that each character has at least 3 different shapes (depending of the position in the word). With the current technique which I am creating the buttons this cannot be done.

Thanks Globalopper have already some fonts which can represent hebrew characters. Will let you know case I need help. Of the above buttons are ok everything should work fine.
