Simple Machines is happy to annouce the release of SMF 1.1.1. Unfortuately a few bugs crept into the final release of 1.1 which this patch addresses - in addition an issue was reported with both SMF 1.0 and 1.1 which may allow someone to take advantage of a security hole within Internet Explorer to expoit a forum. This release closes this potential hole. Note users who are still running SMF 1.0.9 (Or earlier) and are not ready to upgrade to SMF 1.1 should see this topic (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=134973.0) for information on patching the SMF 1.0.x line. A full list of fixes is as follows:
- Fixed potential XSS vulnerability for users of Internet Explorer. (Reported by Jessica Hope and rotwang)
- Changed the way SMF logs IP addresses to make it harder for someone to bypass banning.
- Fixed bug in BBC parsing that could cause an error for people with special characters in their username on certain versions of PHP.
- Fixed apostrophes in smiley location path causing a database error.
- Fixed usage of an array before it was declared causing issues for bridges.
- Fixed Personal Message labels not being properly restricted to the current member.
- Fixed search sometimes returning no results when it should have done.
- The sticky checkbox in prune boards would alternate when it shouldn't have done.
- Send annoucements out in slightly smaller chunks.
For users
currently running SMF 1.1 Final upgrading could not be easier. Simply log into your forum and visit your admin center - a notice should inform you an update is available. Follow the instructions to patch your release - this should
not affect any modifications, language packs or themes you have installed. Alternatively download the attached patch file and upload to your "Packages" directory and visit the package manager to install this fix.
For all other users please follow the instructions posted in the Online Manual about installing (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=2.0;sort=subject) and upgrading (http://docs.simplemachines.org/index.php?board=3.0;sort=subject).
Finally - please do not use this topic for any support requests. You will get a much prompter response by visiting the relevant support board!
Thanks,
Simple Machines
Thanks. It was easy to install in 1.1 final :-*
Glad to hear. In general all patches are this easy to apply - it's only the big jumps (1.0.9 to 1.1 etc) that are a little trickier. Much like Amazons "One click to buy" we have "Two clicks to upgrade" :)
Typically strange, its 1.1.1 which is the 1 threes times in a row :D
Easy enough to install...although it said test failed on a few of the files so I'm not sure if it was correct ::)
2 forums upgraded successfully.
One failed with error package not compatible with this version or something. Howeover it shows that update is available but it doesn't work. Browsing packages neither works

Niko - that error should be associated with browsing a package server? You're definetely trying the package on SMF 1.1 Final? The "patch" is only for 1.1 Final.
Can you try downloading it straight from the first post of this topic and uploading that to your packages folder.

Yes. It is 1.1 Final.

This worked. (Uploaded from SMF)
Upgrading SMF is easy :)
Didn't go so easy for me, I got an error in Display.php. Any suggestions?
What mods do you have installed? One of them musn't be compatible.
I've got LOADS of modifications, lol. I guess I should wait to install, then. :)
I've got an error on "changelog.txt"
It's looking for:
SMF 1.1 December 02, 2006
================================================================================
but in my changelog it says:
SMF 1.1 December 01, 2006
================================================================================
"December 01" ???
Easy to fix, but strange.
Upgrade to 1.1.1 from 1.1 Final worked like a charm, thank you.
If that's the only problem its okay, you can just install it. The changelog doesn't really need to be updated. I don't actually have it on my server! :)
Did anybody tried this with Mkportal?
The server gives me an error :
1. Execute Modification ./changelog.txt Test failed
What is wrong? ::)
I am in love with you people. That mod that you made to do the update seems to work great. It's a lot easier than me having to go in and redo the 15 manual mods that I have too.
Thanks

That's okay, you can install it anyway. If you get errors on the changelog it doesn't matter.

Yep :)

Works like a charm ;)
I am one of these folks who have to manually make the "temp"-folder via FTP in packages-dir due to server config...
But this time I forgot to make the temp-dir.... Now I can neither uninstall 1.1.1, nor can I install it again.
When I try to re-install it, it behaves as it actually would install, but in "Check all files against current versions." and anywhere else V 1.1 remains :(
What to do?

What does the error message say - and what are the lines of Display.php around where it says the error occured?
katzenellenbogen ,
I'm confused - what version number does it currently list at the bottom of the forum?
QuoteI'm confused - what version number does it currently list at the bottom of the forum?
I am confused too... It lists 1.1, and package-manager says the update has already been installed. But in fact this seems to be untrue.

I am having the same problem! It displays 1.1 at the bottom but the package is installed (it displays a green light next to the name in the packages) . I can't uninstall it coz it says There is no uninstaller. Also, when I check the Detailed Version Check, only the SMF Package displays 1.1. but all other files display the newest version. So, I really don't have a clue is it really updated.
Please advice,

getting strange errors in my server erro log since upgrade.
It seems to be tagging the server IP address to the end of stuff:
Mon Dec 18 14:57:14 2006] [error] [client 62.253.32.5] Premature end of script headers: php-script, referer: http://www.domain.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=announce;sa=send

Whats that about then ?
It seems to have failed to change index.php. You can run the package installe again to fix that. Simply go to "installed packages" - delete the patch package then redownload and install it. It will "fail" on all the steps that worked the first time but simply ignore that.
Orange789,
How did you upgrade - the patch? None of those errors make any sense to me - particularly as a result of the 1.1.1 patch.
No errors on 1.1rc3 -> 1.1 -> 1.1.1 update
Thanks for upgrade.

Sorry, won't help. I even tried to delete the upgrade-package in installed.list file and then tried to re-install again. It behaves as if everything went well (asks for ftp info, says successfull installation...), but in the end nothing happens (version counter remains 1.1).
The trick with manually making the temp-folder within Packages-dir and chmoding it to 777 didn't help either...
thanks for the update

Through the package manager
I got an test failed error for changelog.txt but guessed that would not be a problem so continued.
Everything else seems fine.
Not getting errors with the forum ( other than cannot send annaouncemnts because of the premature end of script header error as above) just noticed that in my error log and found it rather strange!
katzenellenbogen,
Are you sure index.php in the forum root directory is writable?
Orange,
The changelog failure is not an issue. The annoucements one is rather strange. Do you have any mods installed? I wonder if in your case it may be sensible to reupload a clean set of 1.1.1 files from the download page here ("Large Upgrade") to see if it clears it?
QuoteAre you sure index.php in the forum root directory is writable?
Yes, absolutely sure. Has always been chmodded to 777...
ALL OK here... execept it killed some of my mods. Just have to wait for the authors to upgrade them again...

Check ;), installed without problems. Thx! Just wanted to be sure before I f*cked up mij forum ::)
It was the problem with the cache folder. I deleted the cache from the php accelerator and now it displays 1.1.1 and eveything is updated as it should. This is the second problem I am having with the php caching. Anyone here knows a good guide where I can make the forum work ok with Eaccelerator. Also, the forum displays
SMF has not been able to detect a compatible accelerator on your server.
although there is one installed and it works ok.
Thanks.

katzenellenbogen,
May I suggest you edit index.php directly then and after that it will all be OK. Literally open index.php and change the two occurances of 1.1 for 1.1.1.

Language Files 1.1 1.1Maybe time to simply overwrite the files that are new in this release?
I really need to update to 1.1 before this :S
My first attempt at upgrading using the package manager failed. Some file or folder was not writeable. The ftp login script that changes the permissions failed because my provider does not allow chmod'ing of files except with their file manager. So, not knowiing which files or folders needed to chmod'ed I did a recursive 777 on the forum folder. Then the package manager ran just fine.
Now, I am asking if there is a reference that tells me what the file and folder permisions should be because I would like to set them back to the correct settings. Thanks.
Setting everything 777 is fine and won't cause problems.
Thanks Moto-Chan. I suppose as long as the server itself is secure you are right. Just thought I would ask if there were recommended settings but if 777 won't hurt then fine.
Hello,
I'm brand new to the SMF community. I was previously using phpBB and got tired of having to manually weed out the cockroaches who kept registering because the phpBB forum lacked some security features that it needed.
Switching to smf (1.1) and converting my phpBB forum could not have been simpler (N.P.I.) or pain free! For that I owe you all a great debt of gratitude! Thank you, thank you!
I especially love the fact that in the admin panel area, I am notified of needed patches and given a quick link to do the job! However.....
I am having a problem with the patch link. I am logged in under an account with full board permissions. When I am in the Administration area and click on the "update your forum" link, I continually receive this error:
You are not allowed to administrate this forum.
Please login below or register an account with ......
which prompts me to register for my own site again. Since I converted from phpBB is there a problem with this for me or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Lou

Must have given errors when you installed the package; I say, if you have mods, you're better off installing manually, or removeing all your mods first...
just noticed im missing majority of my uninstall links as well after an error free upgrade.
my guess is it has to do with the version change for 1.1
Since the mods were installed with the option "Uninstall for 1.1" but not for 1.1.1

But that's just me...

Add

oh well atleast the mods work
Ive looked around for the version number - does anyone know where I need to change the uninstall for 1.1 to 1.1.1 for the uninstall links to reappear? Would I need to download the zips change versions inside and then re-upload?
Or would I have to re-apply them as well? Cos if yes then its a terrible amount of work! The mods are mega ones like Arcade and TP and many many smaller ones!
the ;emulate_version=1.1 dosent make the links show up.
Appologies, that should have read ;version_emulate=1.1

Or maybe not if there is some kind of cached footprint of the install file...???
oh no now it says "hacking attempt detected"

Hmm, are you 100% sure your account is an administrator account rather than an account with most permissions assigned?
Yes. There are two "admin" type groups listed. One is 'Administrator' and the other is a remanant left from the phpBB conversion I guess and is called 'phpBB Site Admin'. The
Administrator group says it has 'all' permissions. The
phpBB Site Admin account only listed 2 permission so to test a theory, I enabled all available permissions for that group, giving it 71 in total.
The forum account I logged in as is a member of both the smf Administrator group and the phpBB Site Admin group. In addition, when I am logged in and click on the profie for the account and click 'Show Permissions', it comes back with
As an administrator, this member has all possible permissions.
So, that's as sure as I can think of that the account trying to do the update is indeed an administrator account.
Thanks,
Lou
Ok, so what's the best way to go here, I have a fairly heavily modded forum, should I do a manual install? or uninstall all my mods first? or just go ahead and hope for the best? I'm trusting the Liverpool man... ;D
[edit]thing is, I've just discovered yet another trojan on my winblow$ pc, so am also in the process of migrating to linux...so much to do, so little time to do it...
Congratulation for quick fixing ! ;)

Definitely uninstall all your mods!!! My board is completely broken and I have no idea how to fix it. That Ad Management mod, though very useful, is going to be the death of me! :'(
As long as ur mods are working (which they will unless it was a mod effected by the file changes in which case u would have gotten an error) leave well enough alone
If you ever need to uninstall a mod just do what Ben_s suggested, in the package manager put ;version_emulate=1.1 in front of the existing address in the adressbar and uninstall
but if it works - dont muddle with it lol or u may just have to start from scratch once more

Thanx m8...I think I'll do it all on my local version first, then re-upload the files via ftp...does this mod change the database???
BTW, Ad Mod; very useful, but a WHOLE load of problems...I just put my ads in manually now...

Odd, never come across that before. Check that you are not part of any additional groups in your profile.

I upgraded to 1.1.1 via the package manager with 1000+ users online, I wouldn't worry about it.
i can't install it when i click install this patch it return on first page of my forum.

I had those same thoughts and was checking that right about the time you replied. The 'admin account' IS a member of a "Post count based groups". I cannot see anyway to remove the account from that area, unless it is as simple as deleting the # of posts attributed to the account.
I did however, try to create a brand new account, and assigned it to "Administrators" as it's sole and primary account. Cleared all chache, closed browser, reopened browser, logged in as newly created user, went to admin area, tried to apply patch - same result - permission denied error.
I can do the upgrade manually, it's not that big a deal, but thought you might need to know about this scenario in case it is a real problem.
Thanks.
Lou
It all installed well besides the display.php. I guess this is do to a mod being installed.
Was the exploit found in the display.php?
After installing this update, when I clicked Unread Topics and went into one, I got this:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: preg_replace() in /home/xxxx/public_html/board/Sources/Subs.php on line 297
It only seems to be a problem with that one topic (although I only had 3 unread), but it may happen again.
You will need to talk to your host about that - preg_replace is a standard PHP function. The only situation that could cause that function to be undefined is if your host compiled PHP "--without-pcre-regex".
OK I will ask, although this has only started happening since I installed the update and it's never happened before. Seems to be happening when it wants now, just happened when I tried to reply to a topic with topicseen in the url.
The ad management mod has caused this after I applied the patch:
QuoteFatal error: Call to undefined function: show_topofpageads() in /home/virtual/site35/fst/var/www/html/forum/Sources/Load.php(1724) : eval()'d code on line 173

Ladies and Gentlemen,
And this why I/you should pay head to SMF's warning of all version are Beta
accept 1.09.
However LOL, I thought the warning was for the " unstable versions".
Wasnt 1.1 supposed to be the stable fixed one ( tougne in cheek)
And yet again this why my main site I use SMF does not have 1.1 on it yet.
Nore does it have RC3 even.
I wait for fixes just like this and then I will update/ install
I only like modifying mods once thank you.

Some Unexpected errors came up with the 1.1 Final. This patch will fix all of them and so everything should be ok to upgrade to 1.1.1 and Use your forum without problems. I recommend upgrading to 1.1 as It includes many more features that 1.0 does not have and all around better support and checks for everything used.
Please note that this Topic is not for support. Please Post in the appropriate support forums for Help. Using the Search feature may find the answer to your topic and save you and the SMF Support team time.

oh well atleast the mods work
Ive looked around for the version number - does anyone know where I need to change the uninstall for 1.1 to 1.1.1 for the uninstall links to reappear? Would I need to download the zips change versions inside and then re-upload?
That would work I would think... ;D
Or maybe not if there is some kind of cached footprint of the install file...???
Just adding 1.1.1 to the install and uninstall sections of the package.xml file and droping back to the Packages folder worked for me 8)
Adding ;version_emulate=1.1 to the end of the package manager's url will Emulate you having 1.1 Final and not 1.1.1 so you can uninstall.
It had probably been stated over a million times now, but what the heck.
SMF rocks! ;) ;D
Please note that this is not a support topic. If you are having problems with the upgrade, please post in the proper board.
I managed to upgrade the 1.1 Final to the following 1.1.
It's working just normal.
To prevent opening a topic just for saying this.. When do you planning to launch a new version of SMF..
They JUST launched 1.1.1 and you're asking about 2.0 already :o

lol. I'm, up to speed :)
One more question. The next launch (I know it will take some time to come) will be called 1.1.2? Or will be 2?
It's irrelevant I know :|
SMF 2.0 is to be released when SMF Devs Feel like it...
But I feel that will be a long time from now.. 1.1 just became final.. Give it time.
1.1.X is when they sort out a bug or feature etc, X.0 is when they make a major upgrade.
Awesome update!
I'm totally digg'in the new version, i really liked smf 1.0.8 (which was the last version i used before.. should i say it? buying a life time ipb license)..
Anyways, i'm back using smf for a newer project.. (wouldn't have it any other way this time)

Post a thread in the support boards if you need help.
Installed without any errors.
I was recieving occasional database error email notifications and hopefully this has fixed that.
Thanks for the patch. :D
I am a little Leary of installing this over my existing forum. So the question I am asking is can I make a New folder add the web install file and the 1.1.1 files, then when it asks me for the data base to use point it to my existing data base? Will both forums work from the same data base? Then when I know it up and working fine change the destination address to the forum address already in use? I hope this makes sense.
Updated here without a hitch,
Much appreciated!

Sorry brain is not in gear properly, I am currently running SMF 1.1 RC3, is this a release to upgrade from 1.1 RC3, to 1.1.1 RC3 (or whatever?). If so, I am unable to see how to install the upgrade via Package Manager (which has worked in the past fine) as no upgrade link/path is being presented to me when I use Browse Packages or Download Packages.
What I mean is there is no direct link to apply the patch from the Package Manager, or do I just download the patch in the usual manner and upload it?
easiest SMF install ever ... nice ... so, if this is safe, how excatly is the version 1.0.8 unsafe ?? could i get the excat steps to break into a version 1.0.8 that my competing website is using ?? hehe ... just kidding :)
pulkit, there are some minor bugs in 1.0.8, so if you will be staying on the 1.0 series, update to 1.0.10.
Chris K, check the online manual (http://docs.simplemachines.org/)
Hi
Sorry, maybe we talking cross lines.
I have in the past had the option to click a link in the Admin section to apply the upgrade or patch, however also I have downloaded the Zip etc file, then unzipped it to my forum server to run the script. I am asking if its there should be a link or clickable link when in the forum to apply the patch or should I need to download it as normal, unzip it locally then upload to the server to then run the script.
1.1 RC3 cannot be upgraded to 1.1 final through package manager. You will need to upgrade manually.
1.1.1 patch applied. Great job, folks. This is how it SHOULD be as far as easy maintenance. I'm REALLY happy I use SMF.

Yeah I did that but only one person replied and now it's just lost in the forum.
OK, I got upgraded to 1.1.1 but now the board will not send email notifications to my users. The image verfication wasn't working, so I turned it off and relied on email confirmation for new members.
Now, it won't send ANY emails (I've tried both PHP and SMTP styles with no response from the system) to my users or new registrants. Nobody can sign up for my board.
Where should I be looking to fix this?

All you do is to fix the uninstall problem of your mods:
1. Identify the mods in your package manager that have the [ Uninstall ] links
2. Using FTP go to your 'Packages' folder under /forum/Packages
3. Drag and drop the mod(s) that have the missing [ Uninstall ] to your desktop
4. Using WinZip, open mod package
5. Find 'package.xml' and right click it, then choose edit
6. Find the areas where it references '1.1' in the install section and add a comma, e.g. 1.1, 1.1.1
7. Do the same thing for the uninstall section as in this example:
Code:
<!-- Installation, the key part of this file. -->
<install for="1.1 RC1, 1.1 RC2, 1.1 RC3, 1.1, 1.1.1">
<modification>modification.xml</modification>
<code>autosig_settings.php</code>
</install>
<!-- Don't forget something to make it uninstallable! -->
<uninstall for="1.1 RC1, 1.1 RC2, 1.1 RC3, 1.1, 1.1.1">
8. Close the notepad that you modified
9. When asked to save changes, hit yes or OK
10. When ask if you want to save the temporary file that was created, hit yes or OK.
11. At this point the Zip file should be closed, just drag that new copy to the same 'Packages' directory and replace existing file
12. Check it by going to your Admin Control Panel, then Packages link, then you should see the [ Uninstall ] links back.

hi
im using SMF 1.1, i want to know that i i will upgrade to 1.1.1 my themes wil not be affected no? i mean everything will work fine no?
I think I found my problem now, when I did the update from the Admin panel (where it says click here to update) it did the file modifications but not the database modifications.
So i downloaded 1.1.1 upgrade.php and it seems to be fine now.
im getting error when tried to update to 1.1.1 from the admin menu (where it says update your forum).
i clicked but getting error as:
"The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF."
anybody help
What about the language files ?
They are still 1.1 today
Will they work with 1.1.1 ?
I'm still running 1.0.9 so maybe i should wait for them to be updated before i upgrade to 1.1.1 ?
LGS, there were no database updates that I can think of.
fossils, some hosts are set up so downloads through web scripts will not work. You can try to download the mod from the first post here and upload it through the admin area.
Tapsa2, the 1.1 final language files should work just fine, but I recommend you make a (database and file) backup before you run the upgrade to be safe.
Hmmm don't know why then, what exactly does the upgrade.php for 1.1.1 then?
It shouldn't really do anything. 1.1.1 just patches some files (which is why it can be installed via the package manager)
lol don't know what I did then, I ran the upgrade file from 1.1.1 folder and it started updating tables lol
It adds a db query into ManagePermissions.php...
[edit] tho I don't see why the patch should start updating tables and such, unless 1.1 wasn't installed properly...

Oh, just wanted to update, I finally got 1.1.1 installed and working, had to do it using the download link then ran upgrade.php.
It gave an error on Loads.php but that was because it was dependent on a mod that was removed (ad management mod). Once I re-installed the mod, 1.1.1 version worked fine.
Thanks all.

Everytime, well most of the time, I try to install a mod it says "The files have corrupted, try upgrading" or some other crap..

I also got error when upgrade from v1.1 Final:
QuoteError in Package Installation
At least one error was encountered during a test installation of this package. It is strongly recommended that you do not continue with installation unless you know what you are doing, and have made a backup very recently. This error may be caused by a conflict between the package you're trying to install and another package you have already installed, an error in the package, a package which requires another package that you don't have installed yet, or a package designed for another version of SMF.
Look at the packages that you've got installed - Click the [delete] links - some of these may be older updates for previous versions but I had no problems after removing them. If it can't delete them you'll either get a message asking for your username and password for ftp so that the board can uninstall them or you will have to follow the instructions above that marinelife gave.
hai2hai, what does it say below that error message?
though I had a "Test Failed" on changelog.txt - I read the advice here, made a backup and proceeded - absolutely no problems.
Thank you
Hi! I´ve had this problem with one of my two forums:
(http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/3935/pic1or5.th.png) (http://img246.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pic1or5.png)
I installed the patch, but there is the patch message again [click here to install].
(http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/1165/pic2gx9.th.png) (http://img246.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pic2gx9.png)
I go to the Admin Center, and it shows that my current installation is 1.1, when i´ve installed 1.1.1...
I have two forums. In the first, the installation was succesfull. But, in this one, i have this error.
Where´s the problem?
By the way! I have no mods installed in my forums.
Click the (More detailed) link to find what specifically is out-of-date. Also this topic is mainly for the announcement of SMF 1.1.1 and support is specifically in the support board for the language.

Fonts and Default ¿Themes?
And sorry, if my question dont go here. I saw that people post here their problems with installation.
Thanks :)
Since its the default theme, your theme is for 1.1 so its just a version check since it doesn't play against strands of code, just the top line and try re-uploading the default theme.
Hi I have a problem with the upgrade,
(http://www.its-usb.com/images/warning.jpg)
sub-posts.php failed btw, sorry I clipped it off the image
I have not installed any packages, its pretty much a straight out of the box installation upgraded from 1.0.9 to 1.1
I am no php sort of guy, so if any of you have any ideas it would be great thanks
Thanks! I´ve fixed my problem! :P
upgraded to smf 1.1.1 and other mods will not install anymore especially the smf shoutbox. Haven't tried installing the theme yet, probably will not work too because of the version change?
EDITED: Thanks, the theme installed properly :)
There weren't many theme changes, so installing one should still work.
Hello but what about the mods, do I need to unzip and change the version inside it and reinstall it again? If yes, which part of the file should I edit. thanks for reply.
You can just put ;version_emulate=1.1 in your forum's URL.
I uploaded the files using FTP & Overwrited old files & then opened upgrade.php.....& Bingo...its updated...
too easy....
Nice to see update ... ;D
Yeah, I am also having problem with mods. It says "The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF."
What do I do?

What worked for me and the mods I had to reinstall (not sure if this is recommended or not, but make sure you back up your forum just in case), was downloaded the mods from the site, opened them, edited the package info xml to 1.1.1 wherever it showed install for/uninstall for older version, re-packed, then downloaded the package using package manager in admin. It worked for most of my mods in my forum.
Good luck. :)
I thought 1.1 final should have been more "resistant" because of its long RC period....
The patchs are not very funny with safe_mode on. :s

Bugs still occur, such is the nature of software. It was preferred to get an update out sooner rather than let people live with them.
Hi everyone, we upgraded our forum to version 1.1.1 today but we are having problems with log in in, we have a redirection on the site so people don't go browsing around our server. The problem is that when you log in to our forum the 1st time you'll get a very long url and the site doesn't recognize it, so you'll be redirected to our main site. When you go back for the 2nd time the url is normal when you log in and then you really get logged in to our forum. Does anyone know how to change it so that we can log in normally the 1st time?
I hope you guys understand my question lol
What do the URLs look like?
Also, can an admin move this to the Support area?
When I try to install this patch I get: "The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF."
I have SMF 1.1 RC3 and Artio SMF Bridge. Could you please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thank you,
Ralph Nunes
This patch is for 1.1 final only, not 1.1 RC3.

How do I upgrade than?
Go to the download page, and use the 'Large Upgrade' package. Or you can use the webinstaller ;)
OK, I've come clean before. I'm dumber than dirt.
What am I doing wrong?
I didn't find any announcement on my Admin page about 1.1.1; so I clicked the link and downloaded the zipped file. I unzipped into a newly created folder on my PC (named SMF 1.1.1 20 Dec 2006) and two files were written to it. I then FTP'd (Filezilla) those two files to the myforum.com/Packages subdir on my hosted server. I then went back to the Admin-Packages page to install it and nothing appears in the list of packages except the ones I reinstalled after getting 1.1F installed. There is no upgrade.php or install.php file either.
Another operator head space problem, I'm sure.
TIA
Upload the zip through the package manager.
Uh, but . . . there's nothing IN the package manager when I view the page and I don't know where to go to get it!?!?!
Go to the Download Packages area and upload the file using the form there.
Thanks, Motoko-chan!
I downloaded the zip file from the forum downloads and unzipped it. There were a BUNCH of files this time. So . . . . I'm ready to FTP them to my host, but don't know what sub-dir to put them into. Should they be in myforum.com/Packages or my forum.com/SMF?
TIA
They should be uploaded to the directory you want SMF to be installed in.

Just want to ask if the code to apply (between <replace> </replace>) is the right one because it is exactly the same the code instructed to be replaced...
Hmm, can this be confirmed or checked?
Coz if that bit of code was touched to fix problems, then the problem isn't fixed because the code in the "replace" part is the same as the "search" part.
If there really are no changes in that bit of a code, it's weird to have been included in the patch, unless otherwise there really was supposed to have been changes.
Thanks again.

I got everything uploaded, but . . .

I used the Large Upload. I have been running 1.1 Final for a coupla weeks. Based on what the Download page says, this is the download one should use if they are running 1.1.
What did I miss?
Oh, I thought you where trying to install 1.1.1
Since you went from 1.1 Final to 1.1.1 there where no database changes between the two versions.
Just need to make sure all paths are correct for where you moved it.
Ermmm .... I am sorry to ask this but how do i upgrade it from SMF 1.1 RC 3 and is the 1.1.1 Version stable yet ?
1.1.1 is the stable release. We had hoped 1.1 Final (1.1.0) would be stable, but it wasn't stable enough :(. There were some serious bugs that needed to be fixed.
To upgrade from 1.1 RC3, use the 'Large Upgrade' package, or use the Webinstaller :)

No, it's very easy :) A few people have problems, but most don't, and if you do, we're here to help. If you do, start a new topic though of course.
I have to say that installing this patch for 1.1 Final was the easiest thing to do. I use a lot of CMS applications, and by far this is the most enjoyable open source application to upgrade with it's package manager. Thank you developers!

Where exactly do we have to place this ;version_emulate=1.1 which part in the forums url? the settings.php or in the admin? Thanks.
Just in your forum's url. Suppose you get to the package manager by http://somedomain.com/forum/index.php?action=packages
Well, type http://somedomain.com/forum/index.php?action=packages;version_emulate=1.1 instead ;)
Thank you! :D It changed the copyright at the bottom to powered by smf 1.1 again? I placed the ;version_emulate=1.1 before I hit the apply mod, not sure if that's what you mean, but I think worked because the installation for ad management was successful anyway.
Sorry for my ignorance but mind if i ask how do i upgrade my forum from 1.1 RC 3 to SMF 1.1.1 ?
Which file do I need to upload to the current forum root ?

Using the file at the beginning of this thread(as the download section comes off as corrupted by package manager) it was a quick back up then install with no errors and everything went great with the exception of three mods becoming uninstallible(sp?) but I am currently fine with that...Thanks to everyone here! Freakin great place!
i made a custom theme when we were on smf 1.1 rc2, its survived great through the upgrade to 1.1 rc3 and then 1.1 final. this time round the upgrade has also gone well, apart from now my table borders on the main index have either disappeared or are now the same colour as the rest of the table, i cant get my head round this - should be an easy fix but i cant see it! can anyone help?

I have a few problems upgrading but ended up doing a clean install of 1.1.1 I am having problems locating compatable mods , arcade shoutbox for my new version. Any good links?

Hi there
I have installed the latest version SMF 1.1.1 and works OK, so far... but there is only one little thing/issue.. I have an add-on/pluggin I am running, something about, I don`t know how to call it, related to [hide] posts or something, but it`s not working anymore...
Maybe this is the right place to post this request... but does anyone of You knows where I can find a better pluggin/add-on that supports this kind of version ???
I had this before on my SMF 1.1 RC3, but since I have made the update, it doesn't`t work properly anymore, it does shows things like |hide|http://www.link.domain|/hide| (please replace | with []) but without taking the code as usual, the tag code
Any suggestions ?
Cheers
1.1.1 webinstall completely crashed my site.

It's looking for:

but in my changelog it says:
SMF 1.1 December 01, 2006

"December 01" ???
Easy to fix, but strange.
DONT INSTALL IT. Your files got corrupted probably and this bye got changed by one. Analyze the files and make sure that no other text (expeccily PHP functions) were altered.
comperr, if the only issue is with the changelog, its fine to install it. I think the charter members patch had the wrong date, which is why theres a problem.

Hi Guys I have a serious question regarding the "stable" version.
looking back at the final how did these serious bugs get by inspection?, and how sure are we 1.1.1
is stable now.
Not being a complainer, we have a community dependant site. And I have to be extra careful as our site
helps ppl with food ,items etc. I saw some say it crashed their forum YIKES!!!
I need to know how sure is it this is safe??
Thanks

SMF 1.1.1 is safe to use, the crashes are usually because of their own human error or the fact they might have forgot to un-install modifications.
Well the IE problem really was rediculous. Seriously, it seems like half our updates are because of it :S
And then something like "Fixed bug in BBC parsing that could cause an error for people with special characters in their username on certain versions of PHP." is probably such an uncommon error that with all the alpha and beta testing that went on, noone happened to have the correct combination of special characters and PHP version until just now.
We can't be entirely sure that 1.1.1 is stable, but it's probably more stable than most other software thats out there.
Which is why I went with a clean install.
It doesnt matter if it crashes or the upgrades fail If you back up your stuff you are ok.
A clean install only takes like 30 mins.
A clean install takes like 2 minutes :)
we use non standard ports and advanced security on our webserver (of which I understand nothing by the way...)
please with the next upgrade to 1.1.2 (or something like that) just give a download file with all the changed files and/or a database update file and a readme
the webupdate etc does not work for me...
so I just uploaded all the files in the upgrade package and everything seems to work fine
-> the current readme (upgrade 1.1.1\smf_1-1-1_update\readme.html) asks to again run the upgrade.php, which, i believe, is not correct ?!

They did posted a downloadable file if you want just the changed files. The readme, well, it's the first post in this thread - upload via the Package Manager, install, and you're done.
If that's what you only want, you can avoid using the webupdate stuff.
Personally, I prefer doing it manually, helps in detecting stuff that our dear devs may missed, like the bit of code I've been asking for a week now and still have no answer. A part in the upgrade file for Subs Post where a bit code must be replaced by a 'supposedly updated' code. The old code and the 'supposedly new' code are just the same, so it's a little worry to me that a supposed fix related to subs post failed coz of that one part. And I don't know why they don't want, or no one wants to answer that. Think about it, you wouldn't put an instruction in the upgrade to replace a code with an old code if there were no changes right? Unless it was added mistakenly, which still requires an answer so we can all breathe normally.
I know we're busy and all that, but hey, I'm pretty sure it's an easy yes or no answer than all the other queries here about upgrade "fatalities", which are 99% on the customer/user/admin part ;) Know what I mean?
You did not patch any holes. We have had to get rid of SMF because of repeated hacks to our forums after multiple updates. Please, focus more on security and less on useless features.
If you're wondering, we had a website for our guild on World of Warcraft, and the person in question used an exploit in SMF to add a script to the forum's index.php where it would install a keylogger on computers running older versions of IE. This happened 4 times, after repeatedely changing all passwords with multiple (non-infected) computers. Fix your forums.
robodex, we take security very seriously. Please submit a security report (http://www.simplemachines.org/about/security.php) detailing the problems and we will work to investigate and fix it.

My post was of a serious nature as mentioned we have a sensitive database.
If it crashed it wouldnt hurt me, but would affect ppl whom need food.

Can't take the chance of any issues like I see listed..

I also running 1.1.RC3 but I can"t update. Just two days ago I wanted to upload 1.1.1update attached in first post in this topic, but That is what I get.
The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF. Have somebody idea where error ca be?
Andres
It is for 1.1 only. If you're running 1.1 RC3 now, you'll have to use the Large Upgrade package from the download page.
Thanks Eld. My admin center in top shows only upgrade to 1.1.1. Maybe I should search better for upgrade.
Andres
I have SMF 1.1 RC2 but only with the security patches (so its essentially 1.1 RC1 + Security Patches of RC2).
Is it fine to upgrade to 1.1.1 directly?
You can, but you need to use the 1.1.1 upgrade package, not the attachment on this topic.
I'm locking this topic as I believe any additional replies will effectively be support. If you're having any difficulties upgrading/installing please ensure you've followed the instructions in the annoucement and if you still have an issue please post in our Support Board (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=10.0).
