Nice front page, I like the new look...

I agree.

I don't. All of the new images (buttons/category things) look like poop, to be honest. They don't fit in with Curve.
+1

There might be some other nonsense in its place, but not that exact nonsense. If all of science were wiped out, it would still be true and someone would find a way to figure it all out again."

I agree, it does look nice. :)

Mr. Jinx

I've been running SMF 2.0 beta / RC for sooooo long (in production :P) that I just can't believe the final is coming! That is just great news.
Although the RC is running perfectly, it's great to hear that the official version is finally going to be released. One of the problems with those RC's is that there are no updates and patches (except the last RC4 security update). Instead you have to reinstall the complete forum. This will be alot easier with the final version. Updates can be done with the package manager. I missed that!
Still, I have to admit that I'm also looking at alternatives like IP.Board because they are developing like crazy and have a lot of new features. I really hope that SMF can keep up with this.

Fustrate

Remember, the devs we have now are not the devs who started 2.0. They weren't even devs for most of the long development time. Norv is really trying to change things (and succeeding), and I really don't think he'll let things take anywhere near this long ever again. He hated it as much as the rest of us, as did everyone on the team during its time in beta and RC.

True.

Ill just be happy that now if they update SMF 2 it wont break my installed mods, (hopefully) this was what chased me away from SMF in the 1st place. I would get the whole site setup, mods installed...everything just the way i liked it and BAM!!! They update another RC version. Drove me absolutely insane and ultimately made me use another forum software, thank god i can come back now.

Adish - (F.L.A.M.E.R)

Weeeeeeeeeeell..... It won't technically break it, but.... you will have to put the codes in place again. :( That is why we put the line in "red" warning you about not recommending to use development builds. :P

DoctorMalboro

Now the buttons look nicer. It looks better than the old design IMO...

Good to hear...

So what about 2.1? Or is development going straight into 3.0?
That's under discussion at the moment. There are arguments in favour of both options.

Fustrate

* Fustrate would be arguing in favor of 3.0 alone or two dev teams, one for 2.1 and one for 3.0, if he were taking part in the discussion, which he unfortunately isn't.

Why not just go for 7.0?

Then we can have time travel ;)

So, what does this all mean? It means 2.0 final is very very close to being released. Really! I can't give an exact date, but you can trust me that we will release SMF 2.0 final by the end of May, 2011, unless we get hit by an asteroid.
Woooohooooo!!! I can finally launch a v2.0 of my site. I just hope mod authors will be able to update their mods to cater to SMF v2.0 soon enough.

PortaMx is probably the best SMF portal!

Hmmm... We'd have to get ourselves another dev. team for that...

There are loads of old devs out there, and quite a few people on and off the team, who are familiar enough with 2.0 to handle development of 2.1 while the current dev team works on 3.0.

We're releasing it as fast as we can. Mind you, a ton has to be done for this transition.

What's left to be done? This seems in rather stark contrast to what we've been hearing. Example from the first post in this thread:

All that's left now is to spray some "pesticode" here and there and 2.0 final should be ready to go...  At this point, there are only a few changes to make... 2.0 final is very very close to being released.
