Only change the index.template.php and make the edits to that file.
I have been busy with other stuff and this mod got pushed off but I want to finish it hopefully.
You have said that index.template.php should be modified but in the instructions for manual install of this mod such file is not mentioned.
The instructions do mention BoardIndex.template.php and MessageIndex.template.php, which changes should I manually apply to the index.template.php file?

vbgamer45

I forgot I changed the mo not to make many edits if any to the index.template.php

On the mod site use the parse mod function for your SMF version and find similiar edits in your files and make the changes there.

Installed Ad Management Mod on SMF 2.0.4 and now SMF site isn't working.
I get "Database Error" as page name. The page says:

Table 'MYUSERNAME_smfn1.smf_ads' doesn't exist
File: /home/MYUSERNAME/public_html/Talk/Sources/LoadAds.php
Line: 51

The file "LoadAds.php" is a file that came with the mod. I made NO edits to it.

Any Help PLEASE....

Copy the install script from the zip upload it to your forum and run it though the browser.

OK - Just started using SMF. Downloaded SMF 2.0.4 and worked fine. Found the Ad Management Mod and ran into trouble (My Fault - Script is GREAT!).

I was trying to manually install each file. I downloaded mod zip to my desktop. Unzipped onto my desktop. Made ALL the DANG edits in "Script Editor" myself & tried to install each file MANUALLY with Filezilla. WHAT WAS I THINKING??? Well... It didn't work!

I ended up deleting ALL the SMF files on my hosting site and my desktop. I kept the original unedited downloaded Ad Management Mod zip. I did a fresh SMF install onto my hosting site and started from scratch. I logged into my new SMF site. I then clicked the "Admin" tab. I found the "Package Manager." I then clicked the "Downloaded" tab. I then found "Package To Upload" and click "choose file." I uploaded the zipped Mod file (Ad_Mod_v3). I had to press install, it did ALL the rest, and EVERYTHING is working perfect now.

Thanks for the help. Sorry for the long reply. Hopefully this post helps someone else here too.

I guess this is in the pro version but... a good place for ads would be in the column for the poster of topics/replies - mostly a wasted space column in boards.

If people have a portal its a bit overkill on left and right columns. Will it post ads in YOUR portal columns by default?

Which files should I look through though? Any particular directory or all files in the installation?
Sorry I have so many questions but I have never done it before and don't want to mess up my installation.

I belive there

Hmm never thought about that what type of ad would go there?

Under the poster info on the left the column is quite wide. On my site at total width about 1,100pix that column is the same as say, your left and right Ad columns, and my portal column set about 225.

There is plenty of space there for small image, text, links.

I havent started commercial Ads yet - soon hopefully, but you can see on the front page a few friends sites I gave a portal block style Ad. . Lower down the page on in the left column:

Another idea for your left and right columns would be to have an option for more than 1 Ad (I guess thats the pro version). On some long posts there is a big empty space there. I know on some it is small but...

It's up to google they may or may not show ads on the page depending on the content.

Could be the ad code itself might be slow loading.

A couple of quick questions:

1.  Would anyone be willing to provide a live and living example of the Ad Mod out on the web?  Or is this actual forum an example of that?

2.  The support page said that you can put either html or PHP in the ad mod.  What about Amazon Affiliate ads with or without images?  I assume the answer is 'yes' but just want to double check.

vbgamer45

1. http://www.smfads.com the forum uses the ad management mod.

2. Yes you can enter as html code and it will work.

Let's just say you implement the Ad Mod and you have an issue and want to rollback.  Is that easy to do?  Or would you have to restore from backup?

Also, does the Ad Mod actually alter the database itself, i.e. would I need to do a backup of the database immediately before installation?

Kindred

ypu should always backup files and database before any mod.

IIRC, yes, the mod stores the ad code in a new table in the database

as for uinstalling - it depends what additional mods you have applied in the time since installing this one. Every time you add more code, there is the chance for an overlap
