Garry

Hello all

I am new to running a forum and I have installed by fantasico [Ver 1.0.7)

I am trying to understand the difference between

ver 1.0.7

and

SMF 1.1 Release Candidate 2

is SMF 1.1 Release Candidate 2  the latest version  and what does ( Release Candidate 2  ) mean

Prasad007

1.0.7 is final ie. its stable.
i wouldnt say 1.1 rc2 is unstable but release candidate is a pre-final release like beta.
so its still under testing before 1.1 final releases.

Garry

Thank You

I notice in my post to you there is an icon there to put me in the editing mode for my post

but it is not there in the forum I have set up ver 1.0.7

Do i need to turn this feature on or is it a feature of ver 1.1 RC 2

Where can I download Ver 1.1 rc2

THANKS

Dannii

1.0.7 is the latest release of the 1.0 SMF branch. It is a security update of 1.0.6, and contains no new features since 1.0 Final.
1.1 RC2 is a release candidate. It too is now feature frozen, and is a step above a beta release, but still slightly unstable, and it still has a few bugs.

Inline editing is a feature of 1.1 only. You can get 1.1 RC2 at the downloads page - there's a big link at the top ;)

If I am asking questions in the wrong forum please feel free to direct me to the correct area.....

In the version 1.0.7 which I am running I am tryng to turn off all the information in the INFO Centre on the first page of the forum as you come online

Which includes

Recent Posts

Upcoming Calendar

Forum Stats

Users Online

Login (Forgot your password?)

This is all at the bottom of the screen under all the area for the actual Boards that are available

I want to keep the main area very simple so when someone comes online they only have a few choices

ie: to goto the calender or the read the posts in the catagories

Is this possible and if so where

I saw in the "Edit Features and Options Area"

                         "Layout and Options" section

          Enable who's online list  CheckBox

But it doesnt seem to do anything

This is a play forum that I have set up and id be willing to let some have the ADMIN rights to take a peek see if they were interested

Some of that stuff is enabled via Admin|Permissions. Click on Modify alongside the group you want to hide it from (e.g. Unregistered guests, Ungrouped members).

I couldn't be bothered to read through all the 29 pages here, but I am wondering if there will be many template changes from 1.1 RC2 to 1.1 Final Release?

I am planning on trying out SMF for a new forum I am opening up, but I don't want to do a whole lot of template editing if I'll have to spend countless hours redoing them again after I've upgraded to stable.

Also is there any ETA on Final yet?  8) Somewhat hesitant on opening up a new site before Final is released..

JayBachatero

There are a few tiny template changes that have been made to fix certain theme bugs.  Besides that there are no other template changes.

There is no ETA for RC3/Final.

So there will be another RC before Final?

ETA = Estimated Time to Arrival.  Generally it means a guess in how long it'll be before some event.

no no. i meant INDIVIDUAL smileys like i did in 1.0. i added several new smileys.

i don't want to add a whole set. just one or two smileys.

edit nvm. i found it. lol i had to enable custom ones xD

After all these months, is it not time you atleast give us an estimated release time of next release ?  It's little tough to plan implementing SMF in a serious site with no timeplans at all, and I dont wanna go for the old version.

Please take this post serious and reply atleast with somekind of estimated date. Not exactly.

Thanks a lot in advance for a great product !

As it's been said before...

We cannot make and estimations as to when it will be released. It is nearly impossible for a developer to make a quality product while feeling pressed for time because an estimated time was given.

However, we are feature frozen and only bug hunting now so RC2 is what the final product will be, just without the bugs ;)
