RC3 does have some changes to it. Plus I'd also speculate that not everyone wants Aeva + SMG in a package and have concerns over having an uberpackage, but it works for me.

On that note, I was looking at installing Aeva Media on a site but the other 'mins said no because of the Aeva side which we don't want.

Arantor, you *know* you can disable Aeva's auto-embedder, don't you?
It even has the big "Disable" button in the auto-embed section...

Indy, basically, to get a rounded header in RC2, you do <h3 class="titlebg"><span class="left"></span>My title</h3>, right? In RC3 (at least in the current SVN), you'll do it this way: <div class="title_bar"><h3 class="titlebg">My title</h3></div>. Because of that, RC2 users will notice that one of the sides of the header is no longer rounded. I may add compatibility settings in the future... But not my priority really.

@Soms> I just hope that the 1000+ users who downloaded the first alpha in the first day haven't actually installed it. Because if they didn't update it -- they must have met a lot of issues...
As for reducing support, the only way is to rewrite the software to consider the user is dumb. He may not be, but it's always best to consider it in the first place, I suppose. Only, I don't like doing that. I like thinking all admins are geeks. Ah, well.
Finally, about AEVAC (don't forget the C at the end): yes, the download counter was very low and it went out of the top 10... But (1) the mod wasn't in Alpha or even Beta so I was kinda worried that I had unwillingly destroyed Karl's work, (2) Although the automatic sitelist update was created as a way to make sure that all users would always see their YouTube videos embedded correctly, it *is* really the reason why the mod is at number 1 everywhere. I always feared people would complain about this 'artificial' way of being very well seen. But really, I never asked for the special board (which gives even more visibility to Aeva), I never asked for many things really, I just worked hard on it. And I think that even if I remove the automatic sitelist update thing, it will stay at number 1 as long as I update it regularly. There's always a core group of 2,000-3,000 users who update the mod manually on a regular basis. It helps, lol.

@Tair> I'm afraid I only 'fixed' item titles, not album names. Forgot about them. Well, looking at it: (1) album names are physically limited to 50 characters - I think in MySQL 5 that means 50 UTF8 characters, but in any case it doesn't change anything in AM: since names are converted to entities, each character takes up to 5-6 bytes... Which limits greatly the number of chars. (2) I forgot to apply the "&" fix to album names.

Will try to think of these later.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

@Arantor> Fair enough ;) Then just let it be known that if you only want one of the two main features, you can disable the other one safely. (The auto-embedder is enabled by default so you'll need to disable it in the admin, but the gallery system is disabled by default -- re: permissions.)

@Dismal> Fresh install, but there were already other mods, right? It conflicted with them.

Yes, what could it be? Want me to list the mods here?

Nao: Thanks for that, I'll see if I can convince the others to let me use AM or if not that, SMG on its own.

@Francis> Well... Is item #1 an empty white picture? :P
No it is not an empty picture. You can see it here and then you can try to see it with MGalleryItem here:

Report from a Greek Utf8 forum (SMF 2.0 RC2)  :

The ?? ?? ?? ?? issue in the item title is corrected in the new a3 version. The text appear in Greek.  :)

The album name still has the problem with the #& and limited to 8 Greek chatacters, but is know to you.

The ?? ?? ?? ?? issue appears now in the new option with the Welcome page if i edit that from the Aeva administration.

Nao 尚

@Dismal> yeah

@Francis> You know, I already tried viewing your site... And of course you don't allow access to guests. I'm not opening accounts like that. Anyway-- what's your mgalleryitem file chmodded to?

@Arantor> I'd tend to recommend AM, even in alpha, especially if you're installing a fresh one... (Apparently Alpha 3 is *at last* stable enough for a wider release. Next version will be beta 1, hopefully.)

@leftezi> Yes, the album name, as said above, I forgot to deal with that. Will see about the Welcome message... I didn't think it would have the issue, lol. Does it happen in all UTF modes? (I suppose so.)

Hi
I have just updated this fantatic mod to "newest" 7.0.706 - i dont need the gallery)- uploaded the new source and languege files via FTP.

But - i have one problem - every youtube video is stretched to maximum width - even the small lowres.

Examples
http://www.fg-forum.dk/smf/index.php?topic=30877.0

HD works fine  ??? [/]

Settings - tried different, but no luck - Use earlier, Javascript-less, embedding system is tjecked or else i get scrollbars.

What am i missing?

It is set to 644, just like all my other files. I allowed guest access so you can see it.

'Access to this album is denied'.
Doesn't change much, though... If the file returns a blank page, you should check your Apache logs, and your SMF error logs. Something should show up...

Hi and thanks for the replies.

I am using Current SMF version: SMF 1.1.11

Default forum Language is English British UTF-8

I do not undertstand why this would be a problem, I can change it with no probs, any help would be welcome.

sphughes

OK, just changed the language to English and all is well, suddenly.

Thanks for the input and help everyone and what a great mod.

Thanks.

sphughes

However -
when I click the Gallery I get this message.

Method Not Implemented
GET to /forum4/index.php not supported.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Any ideas

Steve

FYI, to all complex UTF8 users --

SVN rev 143

@ Seriously, I will NEED to better internal support for UTF8 at some point...
! Modified album table to support maximum length. (db_aeva.php)
! Fixed item titles for a more accurate limitation to 255 characters. (Aeva-Gallery.php)
! Fixed album names to correctly limit them to 80 characters, or at least as much as AM can cram into a 255-byte string when UTF is converted to entities. (Aeva-Gallery2.php)
+ Added a hard_limit parameter to aeva_cutString()/aeva_utf2entities() to account for physical size limits (usually 255 bytes), as opposed to the desired size limit (counted in characters, not in bytes). Made these functions even more complicated in the process. Nerds FTW! (Aeva-Subs-Vital.php)
* Gave more details in the FTP Import description, now that it's actually visible... (language files)

PS: you can force the album table to accept more than 255 bytes if you're using MySQL 5 on your server. I would have to account for that if possible... For now, it is not practical to manually change it though (especially as you need to change some values in the AM code, and resize the field every time you upgrade AM...) Still, I tested manually on my server with some Japanese, and it accepted about 40 characters, which should be OK.

Worst possible case for UTF/conversion is if using numeric entities that happen to be 6 digit, meaning consumption of 9 bytes in &#xxxxxx; form, though the odds are *slightly* against it ;)

Nao 尚

Yes, this is precisely why I should be digging into it. Back when I jumped onboard the project, there were numerous problems with UTF. I tried to tackle them but failed. I then devised the concept of turning everything into entities. For sure, it does help get things done. I mean, it's been working ever since, except for the occasional hiccup like the fact that titles made of 100% exotic characters will be so short. Japanese characters usually take 5 digits, so that's 8 bytes in all. 256/8 = less than 64 characters available at most, and that's not even the case really. (I think.) And that's after changing the code recently -- it used to be much less, especially on the album names front.

Anyway, now that this is 'fixed', I'll still try to rework utf support, but I don't want to make it an absolute priority. I shall do it when I decide I'll rename album folders, too.
