yes, the rules apply to all...   and Nao was placed on post-ban for 2 days for his outburst. After discussion with him, I felt that the point had been sufficiently been made (actually, perhaps over-made) and had no problem de-moting the ban to a "watched" warning.

As for tantrums...  meh, I've seen worse from others who were punished less.

@Arantor : It's ridiculous to expect everyone to be friendly and appreciative. Most are, but you surely would get a few who would make you angry with their demands. Does that mean you get angry back at the, stop development of the mod and forget about the others who are indeed appreciative of your work ? Where is this attitude going to get one in life ?

@Royalduke : No I don't know what the mod does. I have been using forums for 10 years but i still have to understand the basic features of a mod. I dont even know how to post in this forum..it's magic that i am posting here.

I totally agree that Aeva could be a paid mod, it's that good. But the author has decided to make it free. If he wants to charge or not is his problem. Just because it's free doesn't mean we have to accept his tantrums.

@ RoyalDuke : LoL ....small forum owners like me...big guys like you ...great attitude you bring here. I am not questioning what functionality Aeva brings to a forum. But with a unstable mod creator...no matter how good the mod is..it wont be useful when SMF goes to its next version and the so called BIG forum owners like you would have to migrate to another mod or another software (both of which are not good from a marketability point of view)

Check your attitude before you grow up Big Forum Owner.

Let me give you another perspective. I help people all of the time get forums installed or working, help them with the smaller tweaks and edits, make graphics for them, and many other services as such. I do it because I want to. I am not obligated to help someone just because I know how. I just recently was bombarded with spam attempts and guests whining in my shoutbox. Why? Because a guest had come and asked for my help and I said I would be glad to but I was currently upgrading someone's site from SMF1 to SMF2 and merging two other sites together. This kicked into my being a full on battle against them. You may say that this is an isolated event. Think again. It is almost a daily ritual. It quite frankly gets very old, very fast. Many times I tell myself I am just not going to offer support any longer, but I guess I enjoy it just enough to keep me from holding true to that. I have many a time taken extended "breaks". As has been pointed out many times in this thread and elsewhere, there is a high ratio of the "Gimme dat stuffz now" and "Can youz make it for me once...I do the rest". My tiny little site has but a trickle of the traffic a mod like Aeva gets, so you do the math. I am quite surprised at how many of the mod authors (and theme authors) deal with it. You think they don't get harassed? Take a look at signatures and tell me how many times you see "Please do not PM me unless requested" or similar. Ever wonder why? Nao decided not to put up with it. While approaches may vary, the fact remains that ingrates are difficult to deal with, even in the best of times. I don't put up with it either. And I too have blown up at people. I have an attitude also. Sue me. But ask anyone that knows me whether or not my lashing out is ever undeserved.

Nao, you are my hero.... ;D

@Sunking: Ok alright, then I apologize if I have underestimated the problem. But then what's the solution. Not replying to PM's and only replying on the board is one. What else can you do ? Getting upset with such unappreciative souls is not going to help anyone. I am sure such people exist on every free cms/forum. It's your choice how to react.

I am sure SMF Management understands that and placed Nao on a 2 day post-ban to chilld out a bit ..not a permanent one. It seems to have hurt his ego. Just coz you have a popular mod, doesnt make you a superstar with extra privileges.

You can view page error http://lamcon.info/phim-anh/hoai-linh-noi-buon-me-toi/

Well, we *can't* view the error.

Can you please tell what the error is, make a screenshot or something?
Also, tell what exactly did you do before it started not working?

Honestly, we are better off without your mod and your attitude than have you with us.

We? So you have appointed yourself as a spokesperson for everyone? Great.  >:(

I'm not sure what is meant by "wrote in REV255". Where would I go to safely read what has happened here? I like NAO and have been an ardent, but honest supporter and am grieved to learn of this unfortunate chain of events. That is what little I have learned.  Maybe I'm a beanhead, but I can't figure out how to get noisen.com in English, though I've been there in the past a fair bit and there doesn't seem to be anything on smf-media.com.
thanks
There has been more discussion on this in the "Future of AM" topic. Same place, same board.

And yes, AeMe was already RC3-proof.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

calvinhobbes: It doesn't make you any less human.

It was because of that utter level of ingratitude that I basically stopped providing regular support and in no small part why I got burnt out of being on the Customization Team.

I also love how you assume someone has "superstar ego" when that's not actually the case.
Holder of controversial views, all of which my own.

Nao 尚

@SunKing & Tiribulus> I didn't know I was someone's hero until this morning. :D Glad to be of service.
@SunKing> It really, really stroke a chord with me too. I see we can relate!

@calvinhobbes> You shouldn't be talking about my "ego" when you showed you had a sizable one, too, in our earlier discussions.
I don't think I'm a SMF superstar, but some people even in the SMF team do, so I'll settle on that. Technically, it's amusing that the same SMF team never actually invited me in. I probably scare/annoy them. Ask yourself why I've kept working on SMF for so long while still knowing that. It's because I love the software, dude. And it's exactly why I will work on Phoenix too. It's not a "threat" or anything: it's the new software by those guys who created SMF and maintained it for many years, until last year. I'm loyal to people, not to software, because software is made by people, people with a story. So, what's really happening here is that SMF is trying to keep me happy so that I keep working on Aeva Media, and I'm trying to keep working on SMF because it's a really fun challenge to work on. But for everyone to be happy, the situation needs to stay at a status quo, and with people coming from time to time to show their hate, it's hard not to get upset with them and end up insulting them. Heck, of course they deserve to be told "GFY." That wasn't even the point.

What was the point anyway? :P

@Idanc> "this mod and his handling of it introduced new standarts in usability, and the imagination he put into his work was a mere inspiration." --> I merely improved upon work made by others... Really. That's what I've always been doing for years.

@Kindred> The rule still applies... The only way to make it work is either to move everything to noisen.com, or to accomodate for the size of the mod and its support area here on simplemachines.org: give me moderation rights for the AeMe board (which only seems NATURAL to me, for God's sake), and/OR appoint some people to act as transmitters-- do the n00b support for me, and send me the actual bug reports so I can fix them. Seriously, these last few months, I spent at least twice more time supporting AeMe than working on it. It's just not the job I want to do, that "Customer" support thing. What I like is solving problems, adding new features, feeling like I'm proud of my work. Not having to go through endless posts making me feel miserable because n00bs don't get it and don't want to get it anyway.

PS: Additionally, I now have public resentment against SlammedDime, and I'm afraid it won't go away easily.
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

@Nao: It's good to see your dedication towards your mod and SMF through your last post. I hope you understand that reacting to some unappreciative customers is not going to do any good for you or for others.

Most of us think you have a great mod. I hope you take satisfaction in knowing that.

If you want to develop for SMF or Phoenix, thats your choice. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Angelotus

Nao, as I would really like to use your mod, but can not provide you the ftp details, I did a little search of myself.

As fields didn't install on my database, I would like to do it manually. Can you provide me the query I can use in my database to install this?

// The custom fields table
$smcFunc['db_create_table'](
$aevaprefix . 'fields',
array(
array('name' => 'id_field', 'type' => 'INT', 'auto' => true, 'default' => 0),
array('name' => 'name', 'type' => 'VARCHAR', 'size' => 100, 'default' => ''),
array('name' => 'type', 'type' => 'VARCHAR', 'size' => 20, 'default' => 'text'),
array('name' => 'options', 'type' => 'TEXT'),
array('name' => 'required', 'type' => 'TINYINT', 'size' => 1, 'default' => 0),
array('name' => 'searchable', 'type' => 'TINYINT', 'size' => 1, 'default' => 0),
array('name' => 'desc', 'type' => 'TEXT'),
array('name' => 'bbc', 'type' => 'TINYINT', 'size' => 1, 'default' => 0),
array('name' => 'albums', 'type' => 'TEXT'),
),
array(
array(
'type' => 'primary',
'columns' => array('id_field'),
),
),
$no_prefix,
'ignore'
);
$created_tables[] = $aevaprefix . 'fields';

Nao 尚

Just look for the second half of the install file. It has the same queries, only in actual MySQL format, rather than SMF style. You can then create the fields table manually.
I would have told you to do it, but I first wanted to determine whether it was a bug or not...

v1.1 is out.

Version 1.1                                         March 8, 2010
-----------------------------------------------------------------
+ At last, added Slideshow support for lightbox system. (If you don't want it, change the
  source files to include highslide.js instead of highslide-2.js, it will save bandwidth.)
+ Added support for ImageMagick converter, directly through the command-line.
  AeMe no longer needs IMagick or MagickWand to be installed in order to use IM.

Minor changes:

* Split the media handler object to its own file, and relicensed it as LGPL v2.1 to comply with
  GPL viral effects on the Exifixer and getid3() libraries. Sorry for the inconvenience, guys.
+ Added new option for the Foxy! add-on, to add multiple items to a playlist through Quick Mod.
* A small goodie for Opera 10.50 users... CSS3 rounded corners galore! ;)
! Long-lived typo prevented some icons from showing up in the admin area
! Renamed some table fields to prevent SMF from crashing when restoring a backup
! Going to the Unseen area would mark all unseen items as seen... Oops.
! Fixed a couple of frequent "illegal mix of collations" errors
! Renamed some language strings that were colliding with each other
! Audio, video and embedded files should now correctly increase the view count.
  Doing it for embedded was a nightmare, as I had to devise some Ajax code for them.
! Fixed view counts for images that are smaller than the maximum preview size.
! Large file views should be counted when starting loading them,
  rather than when finishing (as opposed to download counts.)
* Disable cache by default at install time
@ And as always, plenty more minor fixes...
I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.

Aeva Media rocks your life.

petesky

Btw. every time i remove the old version and install the new one aeva-embed.php is missing and had to be copied manually ?!

YogiBear

If ever you have a mind to write an SMF compatible Chatroom mod it'd be a huge success, Nao. Why? Because it'd work!

Aeva v1.1 installed successfully.  :)
SMF v2.1.4  Mods : Snow & Garland v1.4, Simple Image Upload v2.0.0,  PHP  v.8.1

MCK

Hi. I installed 1.1 on my test site and it gave an error on install but seems to be working. The error is in relation to subs.php which was touched by the Ajax Chat which I installed earlier on. Here's the code that the installer complained about. I am holding back from installing on production. Any ideas on severity or risk? Many thanks for all your help.

Test Failed for the following step...

Find[Select]
'mlist' => array(

Add Before[Select]
// Aeva Media changes 'media' => array( 'title' => (isset($txt['aeva_gallery']) ? $txt['aeva_gallery'] : 'Media') . (!allowedTo('aeva_access_unseen') || empty($user_info['aeva_unseen']) || $user_info['aeva_unseen'] == -1 ? '' : ' [<b>' . $user_info['aeva_unseen'] . '</b>]'), 'href' => $scripturl . '?action=media', 'show' => allowedTo('aeva_access'), 'sub_buttons' => !allowedTo('aeva_access_unseen') || empty($user_info['aeva_unseen']) || $user_info['aeva_unseen'] == -1 ? array() : array( 'aeva_home' => array( 'title' => $txt['aeva_home'], 'href' => $scripturl . '?action=media', 'show' => true, ), 'aeva_unseen' => array( 'title' => $txt['aeva_unseen'], 'href' => $scripturl . '?action=media;sa=unseen', 'show' => true, ), ), ), // End Aeva Media changes

I'm not sure I understand the question...
The thing is, if they're set too high, well, you might experience pages who load slowly. Your choice, really.
